i have a hearty eater right here.
i dunno if there’s any truth to it but i’d like to believe Sadie’s not a picky eater because she didn’t start out with instant baby food. no gerber, no cerelac. her first food was brown rice cereal MADE BY MOMMY. hahaha! i got bragging rights, right? kidding aside, one of the perks of being a work-at-home mom is that you get to look after your child and ensure that he/she gets proper nutrition (don’t roll your eyes! i know, i’m not exactly a healthy eater but…). what to feed my child is entirely my decision. in the kitchen, i am boss (at least when it comes to feeding Sadie).
still, it amazes me how open my little tigress is to eating (almost) everything i feed her. let’s start with vegetables. yup, mommy isn’t exactly a veggie-eater BUT it doesn’t mean i won’t teach Sadie to love her greens! name it, she eats it. squash, potatoes, carrots, pechay (bok choi), bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and yes, even malunggay! and camote tops, and kangkong, and snow peas! she started out with pureed and mashed veggies when she was six months old and there was no turning back. when her grannies cook pakbet, she eats the squash. when mommy makes afritada, she happily eats the carrots, potatoes, and bell peppers along with the meat! and the meat? yes, she likes pork, beef, and chicken’s her favorite! how about seafood? have you met a 13-month-old who loves fish? Sadie eats bangus, tilapia, swordfish (i know, easy on this, mercury alert!), dory. she eats them fried, with gata, in sinigang…and lemme tell you, she loves spicy food!
and on to desserts–yes, i let her eat chocolates, cakes, ice cream. but the dessert she loves the most, i kid you not, is fruits! mango, banana, papaya, pineapple, watermelon, ponkan, dalandan, apple, even rambutan! she loves fruit juices, too. freshly squeezed orange juice makes her giddy.
and just so you know, i’m not really a good mommy. i allow her to eat junk food as well. she gets her share of chips from time to time. and even not-yet-allowed-for-her-age stuff like gong cha milk tea for instance! lol
sometimes i couldn’t help but wonder–is this just a phase? will she grow tired of eating all these and suddenly become a picky eater?
i sure hope not.
